The Importance of Copyright

In the first post, I would like to introduce Copyright law and emphasize it´s importance for the society :)

Copyright law belongs to the Intellectual property along with patent and trademark, and its function is to protect all creative works from being used without the permission of the author. This law is very beneficial for creators of artistic works which protects them from being copied by another person and used as their work as their own work. Copyright law protects artistic works including books, music, movies, software, sculptures or even choreography and it is given to the author the moment he or she finishes the work (more specifically, it´s tangible form). Copyright law basically enables authors to control their works and gives them right to copy and distribute their works. It is beneficial for the authors as well as for the society. 

For the authors and creators, copyright is especially important because of the constantly improving technology connected with internet, social media and spread of information. Through technology, people have more access to information as well as works of creative ownership and therefore the importance of copyright is increasing and more importantly, copyright legislation needs to constantly adapt as the technology develops.

From the econmic point of view, authors can control who can earn money from their creation (except them). This means that if you write a book, you decide who can "copy" and distribute it (whether is published or not published) and therefore make money off of it. Other than this, artistic works are subjects of investment and therefore still need to be protected.

Industries and institutions that deal with the production of artworks e.g. libraries or theatres are also dependent on the inovative copyright law. It is the base of  all these publishing industries because they create and spread these artistic creations which are stimulated by the system of copyright.

Lastly, copyright law encourages artists or any creators to create more and more works, which therefore contributes to the development of society and public life.
